5,000 years after Mahabharata, ‘flying snakes’ are still found in Bastar

Bastar, Chhattisgarh, Feb 12:  Flying snakes, known to have existed 5,000 years ago during Mahabharata era, are found even today in Bailadeela mountains of Chhattisgarh, claims Principal of Kirandul College and scientist SKS Ganjendra.

Known as ’Takshak saanp’, these flying snakes are better known by their scientific name - Chrysopelea.

 

 

 

 

’Takshak saanp’ are of great historical significance as they are believed to have not only existed centuries back but also played a crucial role in Mahabharata.

It is believed that flying snakes had bitten Hastinapur’s King Parikshit and they belonged to Bailadeela mountains only, Ganjendra told Amarujala. So many centuries have passed by and they are still found here, he was quoted as saying.

He also claimed that these snakes, indentifiable by their light-yellow colour, can also fly from one place to the other.
