’I cheated on her’: India-Pakistan lesbian couple breaks up weeks before wedding

March 26, 2024: Social media influencers Anjali Chakra from India and Sufi Malik from Pakistan have announced the end of their relationship and called off their upcoming wedding. The couple, who had become internet sensations in 2019 for their vibrant celebration of South Asian culture and same-sex love, shared the news of their split on Instagram, pointing to infidelity on Sufi’s part as the cause.

 

Anjali and Sufi’s journey together began over five years ago, capturing the hearts of many with their beautiful portrayal of love that transcended borders and cultural norms. Their engagement, which took place a year prior to their split, was nothing short of a fairy tale. Sufi proposed to Anjali at the iconic Empire State Building in New York, a moment they joyously shared with their followers through a video post.

However, the dream came to an abrupt end when Sufi admitted to cheating on Anjali just weeks before they were scheduled to marry.

"I made an unrecognisable mistake of betrayal by cheating on her a few weeks before our wedding. I’ve hurt her tremendously, beyond my understanding. I am owning up to my mistake and will continue to do so. I’ve hurt the people I love and care about the most through my actions, including our family and friends; our community that I cherish," Sufi wrote in her Instagram post.

"This may come as a shock, but our journey is shifting. We have decided to call off our wedding and end our relationship due to infidelity committed by Sufi," read Anjali’s post.
