Hyderbad, July 29, 2014: Thousands of asthma patients across the country line up at the Exhibition Grounds in Hyderabad as the fish ‘prasadam’ would be administered by the Bathini Goud family.
The ‘prasadam’ is believed to cure asthma and other breathing disorders. It is being administered by the family for the last 169 years. The event kicks off with the commencement of ‘Mrigasira Karthi’, which heralds the onset of monsoon.
The medicine is placed in the mouth of a live mural fish and then slipped into the mouth of the patient. The treatment, which is based on a secret herb formula, draws thousands every year. It is believed that if taken for three consecutive years, it cures asthma.
People suffering from respiratory disorders started queuing up and camp in temporary shelters built for them. The fisheries department keep thousands of live mural fish for sale at its counters at the Exhibition Grounds, the APSRTC is runs special buses to take people from the Imliban and JBS stations and Secunderabad and Hyderabad Railway Stations to the venue.
