Feb 01, 2018: Veerarani Abbakka Utsava 2018, by the Utsava Samiti will also  conduct a state level wrestling competition for women at Abbakka Utsava ground in Ullal on February 3.

The competition is being organised in association with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the Karnataka Wrestling Association and the DK District Amateur Wrestling Association.

Youth Empowerment and Sports Department deputy director Pradeep D’Souza said that around 100 participants from various districts are expected to take part, including national and international champions.

Programme  :  The wrestling competition will start at 10 am and end by 5.30 pm. The weight test will be conducted at the spot from 8 am to 10 am.

The event will be held in 44, 48, 53, 63, 69 and 73 kg categories. The winners of the 53 kg category will be awarded the Rani Abbakka Shree title.

Participants from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will be provided with a travelling aid of Rs 250 and those from outside of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will be provided with a travelling aid of Rs 500. First, second and third prize winners will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 4,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively, he said.

Karnataka Wrestling Association state president M Sureshchandra Shetty, D K District Amateur Wrestling Association president Prakash V Karkera, Abbakka Utsava Samiti sports convener K Taranath Rai and Abbakka Utsava Sports committee secretary Tyagam Harekala were present.
