Vijaykumar Shetty flays BJP for organizing youth convention

Mangalore, May 25, 2012 : Vijaykumar Shetty, the former MLA, flayed BJP leaders for spending a huge sum of money on Yuva Jagruthi Samavesha, which had only 30,000 participants as against the expected 70,000.

Addressing reporters at the office of the District Congress on May 23, Wednesday, he called the convention a “flop show” and said that corruption has increased after the BJP came to power. A youth convention was not required at a time when 123 taluks in the state are experiencing severe drought, he stated.

He said that the convention attracted fewer youth from DK because the BJP has not kept its promises. Stating that the BJP had promised allowances for unemployed youth and 15 lakh houses for the poor in 5 years in its election manifesto, he said that the BJP hasn’t kept a single promise it made. Further, he said that 289 projects were approved at the previous Global Investor’s Meet (GIM) of which only 38 have begun.

Stating that the state government should not have denotified land assigned for the SEZ as over 80 percent farmers were willing to give up their land, he said that this could have  created more job opportunities. When reporters said that several families were displaced during the land acquisition process, but no jobs were given to them, he said that industries must be set up first to create job opportunities.
