Verve 2010 commences: Students urged to achieve corporate excellence

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 18: “Corporate innovations must be made in harmony with our natural environment because an unacceptable innovation might not be readily accepted in a system that doesn’t normally allow innovations,” said Mr. Albert Tauro, the chairman and managing director of Vijaya Bank, during the inauguration programme of Verve 2010, a 3-day national-level business school meet organized by the Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT) at Beeri on March 18, Thursday.

A successful corporate can easily blend planning with balance, he declared and cited the example of Reliance, which has grown tremendously and has achieved in just 10 years what others would take 3 generations to achieve. He lauded the AIMIT for its achievements and promised to recruit some of its students in his bank, where majority of the staff were seniors.

Rev Fr Denzil Lobo, SJ, the director of AIMIT, warned students not to attempt to become CEOs overnight, but climb the corporate ladder slowly from the lowest rung. He gave the example of Henry Ford, who began his career polishing shoes and who made his sons polish his employees’ shoes before making them directors.

Rev Fr Joseph Rodrigues, SJ, the rector of St Aloysius Institutions of the Society of Jesus, Mangalore, presided over the programme and expressed his joy that the Indian market was on par with the world market today. Stressing on the need for business advisors, he said that earning and spending is easier than resource management. He encouraged students to seek lasting solutions in business management and become the backbone of the country, which is on the verge of becoming a developed country.

Quoting the inspirational lines of Tagore’s song, “Day after Day Oh Lord of my Life Shall I Stand before Thee Face to Face,” he warned students of the rat race in the corporate world. He reminded them to set aside quality time for themselves and God irrespective of how busy they are.

Dr. S Sridhar, the professor and dean of the MBA department, made the welcome speech. Mr Santhosh Shanbagh, the faculty coordinator, introduced the guests. Mr. Vivek, the student convener, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Priyanka P S was the comperer. Rev Fr Jeevan Prabhu SJ, the dean of Finance and Administration, and Mr. Veeresh, the student convener, proposed the vote of thanks.
