Varsity’s new system speeds up degree evaluation

Varsity’s new system speeds up degree evaluation

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 13: The results of the under graduate and post graduation examinations will be ready in the shortest period of time thanks to a new system of evaluation adopted by Mangalore University.

Prof. P. S. Yedapadithaya, the registrar (evaluation) of Mangalore University, said that the evaluation for several courses was finished in just one week. The answer scripts of the post graduate and under graduate examinations held in April/May are being evaluated using the new system from June 1.

The new system makes use of OMR sheets with bar codes instead of A forms. The system of tabulators transferring marks from the A forms into a register is now obsolete, said Prof. T. C. Shivashanikara Murthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University. Referring to the errors in the results of the LLB examinations conducted in Oct/Nov 2008, he said that the system of transferring marks to the university ledger manually led to a lot of malpractices on the part of tabulators.

The VC said that the new system of tabulation requires evaluators to enter the marks in the OMR sheets with bar codes. The data on the OMR sheets can then be directly fed into ledgers stored in the computer. Marks cards can be instantly generated from these sheets, he said.

The VC accompanied by P. S. Yadapadithaya and Prof. K. Chinnappa Gowda, the university registrars visited evaluation centres in the city. Prof. Yadapadithaya said that the results of the degree examinations will be announced before July 25.
