Upgrading temple facilities essential: Dr. V. S. Acharya

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 03: Home Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya said on Wednesday that plans are afoot to upgrade facilities at two temples—Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple at Kateel and Kollur Moobambika Temple at Udupi.

He informed reporters that the government will release Rs 14 crore to upgrade Kollur Mookambika Temple and to make available facilities such as accommodation, drinking water, roads, bus stands, drainage, and health centre while Rs 3.7 crore will be provided to upgrade the facilities at Shri Durga Parameshwari Temple, close to Bajpe in DK district.

The home minister explained that upgrading facilities at these temples is essential because a large number of devotees visit these temples and the temple lacks required facilities such as guest houses and health centres. The local population in the places where these temples are located is only 10,000; however, the temples attract over 50,000 people per day, he said.
