Unscheduled load shedding: Khader demands better performance

Mangalore Feb 20: MLA UT Khader has warned Mescom that he will initiate intense protest if it fails to improve its service within 10 days. He was speaking at a press conference about Mescom’s erratic load shedding, which has created a lot of inconvenience for the people.

He complained that electricity is not made available to the people despite paying the bills on time and despite the fact that the chief minister continuously talks of supplying free and uninterrupted power supply. Speaking about the problems faced by students owing to frequent load shedding at night, he accused Mescom of “playing with the future” of the students. He further alleged that owing to inadequate power supply small industries have been forced to shut down and large industries are refusing to step into the district.

He said that, although the government has been talking about launching new power projects for the past two years, the people have not seen the launch of a single power project so far. Although the CM of Chattisgarh Raman Singh was invited and felicitated, the people of the district know nothing about the status of the power project that has been planned there.

Khader informed press people that the power portfolio has been in the possession of the chief minister ever since Eshwarappa resigned. He suggested that the CM appoint a new power minister at the earliest possible.

Khader also informed that, although 6 districts including DK, Udupi, and Shimoga have a daily requirement of 600 mw of power, only 450 mw is available. He expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that Shimoga receives 70 mw per day, but DK receives much lesser than that. He alleged that Shimoga is given priority just because it is the CMs district.

Dinesh Rai, Eshwar Ullal, Sadashiva Ullal, and Ismail were present.
