University demands clarification from English lecturer

University demands clarification from English lecturer

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Apr 2: The Mangalore University has served a show-cause notice on Pattabhirama Somayaji, the English lecture of University College, on March 24, in response to a complaint submitted by students.

Prof Chinnapp Gowda, the registrar of the Mangalore University, stated in the show-cause notice that the students had complained against Somayaji for participating in a public rally against the anti-cow slaughter bill, held in Mangalore on Feb 25. Stating that participating in such programmes amounts to violation of Mangalore University Employees Service (Conduct) Rules, the registrar sought the lecturer’s clarification regarding the issue.

Prof Somayaji sent in his reply to the show-cause notice on March 30 stating that the allegations against him were baseless. He explained that he had participated in the rally on Feb 25 after obtaining a casual leave well in advance. For this reason, his participation in the anti-cow slaughter bill rally can never amount to violation of Mangalore University Employees Service (Conduct) Rules. The English teacher also added that “neither the students nor the higher authorities have the right to interfere in my personal affairs.”
