Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, May 19, 2017: Speaking to reporters here, UDUPI District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said the indoor badminton stadium will be air conditioned at a cost of Rs 1 crore.  The minister said a decision to this effect has been taken to make players comfortable.

He said badminton academies in Udupi and Bengaluru by veteran badminton player Prakash Padukone, in association with the government, has been proposed. The badminton aspirants, especially the children from the district, will get an opportunity to fulfil their dreams, he added.

He said synthetic mat has been laid in the stadium at a cost of Rs 31 lakh and another Rs 46 lakh has been spent on repair of wooden floor.

Madhwaraj said the Congress-led state government had requested the NDA government to hold a meeting of the states with sea coast on conservation of rare fish species which are slowly becoming extinct. The exploitation rate is too high due overfishing. However, the Union government is reluctant to hold a meeting because the initiative has been taken by the Congress government in the state. There is no specific law to curtail or restrict excessive fishing in India. The government has stalked the proposal, which is very sad, he lamented.

He said he also strongly condemns the lackadaisical reaction from the NDA-led Union government and added he did it so being the Fisheries Minister of Karnataka. The government, which is finding ways to bring in politics even for the simplest issues should be condemned, he said.
