Udupi, Feb 23, 2018: The members engaged in heated exchange on the suspension order issued to the mines and geology senior scientist Kodandaramaiah by the Udupi DC here, at the general body meeting of the zilla panchayat on Feb 22, Thursday.
Raising the issue, BJP member Raghavendra Kanchan said the suspension order issued against the officer should be strongly condemned and sought a resolution condemning the suspension order passed by the DC.
Member Prathap Hedge Marali also joined Kanchan and demanded clarification on the suspension order. He stressed that the suspension order issued by the DC is a manipulated one and intentionally targeted. He alleged that the officer was not given the opportunity to make his stance clear proving his innocence. He was not issued the notice and was kept under suspension, which is not fair. He is a sincere officer who has always discharged his duties honestly, the member said.
On the other hand, Congress members Janardhan Thonse, Gowri Devadiga and Vincent Rodrigues strongly opposed the demand by the BJP members for passing out the resolution condemning the suspension order of the officer.
Thonse claimed that the deputy commissioner will not take any hasty decision and the action should be looked in all possible ways to understand the facts. The Cong members said that if the allegations against the officer are proved and the house passes the resolution against the suspension order, it would be a shameful act.
The BJP members demanded to pass the resolution on majority. After a hue and cry, president Dinaker Babu asked the officer from the Mines and Geology department to brief.
The officer said that the suspension order is issued on February 8 following the government direction. The deputy commissioner had listed out some 8-10 points on the failure of discharging the duty by the officer. The list was sent to the government and the government has approved the suspension.
The other issue that was discussed was that the programmes under agriculture and industry is being taken up for discussion without the agenda. Thonse objected to it and said that the agriculture and industry committee is not properly constituted. He added that it is an important area which is not taken seriously, he alleged.
Thonse demanded that the meeting of the standing committee of Education be convened soon to discuss the irregularities in the hostels and the shortage in the supply of uniforms.
The members irrespective of the party affiliations have complained of the irregularities in the hostels and the sufferings of the students.
There is no supply of textbooks and the students are made to suffer. The officer said that the uniform was not supplied by the government in the required numbers.
Gowri Devadiga alleged the officers’ lackadaisical approach towards the leakage in the wooden planks of the vented dam at Bijar-Katinahole area. The officers are indulged in the blame game, she alleged.
