Tulu Academy honorary and book awards on June 30, Saturday

June 26, 2018: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy will present its honorary and book awards for 2017 at a function here on June 30, Saturday, according to A.C. Bhandary, president of the academy.

Addressing media on  june 25, Monday, he said that Minister for Urban Development and Housing U.T. Khader will present the awards at Tulu Bhavan at 2 p.m.

Yakshagana playwright N. Narayana Shetty Shimanthur, Daiva Nalike expert Sesappa Pambada and Tulu writer H. Shakuntala Bhat would be presented with the honorary award.

Tulunadina Janada Pradarshana Kalegalu, a research work authored by Palthadi Ramakrishna Achar, Padeppire, a collection of poems by Roopakala Alva, and Gaggara, a collection of stories by Shimanthur Chandrahasa Suvarna, have been selected for the book award. Their authors too would be honoured.

While the honorary award would carry Rs. 50,000 in cash, citation and memento, the book award would comprise Rs. 25,000 in cash, citation and memento.

Dr. Shimanthur (84) had been awarded Ph.D for his Yakshagana Chandobudhi work by Kannada University, Hampi. He has written Tulu Yakshagana plays, including Sorkuda Siriginde and Rajamudrika.

 Pambada (74) from Manjanadi took to Daiva Nalike along with his father and began independently handling the profession since he was 16.

Ms. Bhat (67), a resident of Haleyangadi, has been in the literary field for over four decades. She has made remarkable contributions in the fields of stories, novels and poems, besides children literature.
