Team Mangalore to represent India at 11th Thailand International Kite Festival

Mangalore, Mar 5: “Team Mangalore,” a group of avid kite flyers in Mangalore, have received an official invitation from the Tourism Authority of Thailand to represent India during the 11th Thailand International Kite Festival at RAM VI Camp, CHA-Am, PETCHBURI, Thailand. So, the Mangalore Team with its collection of gorgeous, traditional kites is now making preparations to visit Thailand. 

Team Mangalore is the only team from India at the Thailand International Kite Festival, which will be held on March 13 - 14, 2010. A 4-member team comprising Mr. Sarvesh Rao, Mr. Nithin J Shetty, Mr. Prashanth Kumar, and Mr. Vasanth Kumar Sanil will participate in this event. About 20 teams from all over the world are expected to participate in this event.

The team has planned to fly special kites based on themes such as Yakshagana, Gajaraja, Kathakali, Charlie Chaplin, Owl, Bharathnatya, and so on, in addition to a wide range of other kites that illustrate the rich cultural diversity of India in general and Coastal Karnataka in particular. 

The team has participated in international kite festivals held in England, France, and Canada. They have won “Best International Kite Award” for their fabulous collection of kites. Team Mangalore’s Kathakkali kite was entered into the Limca Book of Records as the “Largest Kite in India.”

In Jan 2010, Team Mangalore organized the International Kite Festival in Mangalore, an event that attracted a large number of kite-flying enthusiasts and tourists to Mangalore. Team Mangalore takes the credit of making Mangalore the favorite destination of kite enthusiasts from all over the world.
