Puttur, Mar 18: Swami Prasannateertha of Subramanya Mutt inaugurated the Brahma Rath that was dedicated by Muttappa Rai to Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Puttur on March 17, Wednesday. In his benedictory speech, the Swami spoke about the desirability of developing virtues such as surrender and determination.

Shri Rajashekarananda Swami of Vajradehi Mutt said that India is the home of spirituality and science, theists as well as atheists. Since nothing moves without the grace of God, life must be lived religiously, he added. 

Shri Dharmapalanath Swami of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Mangalore, said that a human being who has no religion and self-esteem is a great danger to society. The purpose of life must be realized in order to gain eternal bliss, he said, adding that selfless service leads to God. 

MLA Mallika Prasad presided over the programme. Narendra Rai Derla, the lecturer, gave the introductory speech, in which he said that the Brahma Rath has been dedicated to Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple in order to enable the general public to participate in the worship. 

Amarnath Shetty, the former state minister; MP D V Sadananda Gowda; MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; Zilla Panchayat President Santhosh Kumar Bhandary; Taluk Panchayat President Savithri H S; Town Councillor Rajesh Bannur; and former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake were present on the dais. 

A hore kanike procession was held from Darbe to the temple. Dr Harish Kumar, the revenue sub-division officer of the taluk, inaugurated the hore kanike procession. 

Y Shivaramayya, the officer of the temple administration, accepted the offerings. M Sudhakar Shetty, the president of the welcome committee, welcomed the gathering. Manjunath Shetty, the conservator of the Mangalore forest, proposed the vote of thanks. Prof B J Suvarna compered the programme.
