State government officially declares formation of Mangalore Commissionerate

Mangalore, June 13: The state government has issued an official statement announcing the formation of the Mangalore Police Commissionerate. The home department has declared that the commissionerate is for all areas coming under the jurisdiction of Mangalore City Corporation, including Bajpe, Ullal, Mulki, Konaje, and Moodabidri. The commissioner of police for Mangalore city will officially start functioning from the date of publication of this notification in the government’s official gazette. 

The Commissioner of Police will exercise powers, perform functions and duties, and shall have authority and responsibilities according to this Act or as instructed by the state government in a special or general order. 

The notification states that the powers, functions, duties, responsibilities, and authorities exercisable, performed, or discharged by the commissioner of police will be exercised, performed, or discharged subject to the control of the inspector general and director general of police. 

According to the notification, officers of the rank of superintendent of police appointed to assist the commissioner of police shall be designated as deputy commissioner of police while the deputy assistant superintendent of police will be designated as the assistant commissioner of police.
