Shree Devi Institute of Social Work organizes seminar on women’s issues

Mangalore, March 4: A 2-day seminar on women’s issues, Spoorthi 2010, was inaugurated at Shree Devi Institute of Social Work, Mangalore, on March 4, Thursday. The aim of the seminar is to sensitize students on women’s issues. A group of 100 students attended this seminar. 

Dr. Rameela Shekar, the HOD of Medical and Psychiatric Social Work of Roshni Nilaya said that, although the status of women in society has improved and women can be found working and serving in all areas of life, women’s status needs to be improved still further. She added that the task of changing the status of women in society begins at work. 

She continued voicing her opinion about women’s status and said that, although women enjoyed a position of honor in ancient times, their status slowly declined. Nobody can be blamed for this unfortunate reversal, she said and urged the participants to discuss and act as per the current requirements. 

President of Shree Devi Education Trust Sadananda Shetty presided over the inaugural session. 

The event commenced with a prayer song by Shrithi and her companions. Principal of Shree Devi Institute of Social Work Eunice Rego made the welcome speech. The comperers were Nirmala and Kavyashree.
