Shimoga, Mar 5: No more incidents of violence have been reported in Shimoga, owing to which curfew will be imposed only between 7 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Friday, said Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey. 

He also said that all educational institutions will be closed till further orders are issued. Curfew will be lifted only after careful assessment of the situation on Friday, he said. Buses will ply only to parts of Shimoga where curfew is relaxed; and buses and trucks will offer regular services only when the city is completely back to normal, he said.

Compensation checks of Rs 1 lakh were given to the families of Latif and Sadique, who were killed in the riots. Twenty of the 45 people who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at the McGann Hospital. Four of them sustained bullet injuries. 

Murughan, the superintendent of police, said that the police department has arrested 175 people with regard to the riots. The victims are now being identified with the help of video clippings; and more offenders might be arrested, said the SP. 

Property worth Rs 8 crore has been destroyed in these riots. So far, only Rs 4.5 crore worth of damage has been assessed. This includes 12 ricksaws, 21 two wheelers, 9 four wheelers, a truck, and 25 shops, which were looted and set on fire. Revenue officials have not yet visited houses, which were burgled and damaged.
