Sept 1 to see scanning centres closed

Mangalore Today News Network

Aug 31, 2016: Ultrasound scanning centres in Dakshina Kannada will be closed on Sept 1, Thursday as a mark of protest against the alleged harassment by officials enforcing Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act 1994.

Dr Devdas Acharya, president of the Dakshina Kannada chapter of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association, accused the officials enforcing PCPNDT Act of threatening scanning centre operators that they would close down their centres for procedural lapses, if any, while conducting pre-natal diagnostic tests. “An operator in Pune had to undergo imprisonment for not following non-filing of Form A (taken before commencement of the test),” he said.

Dr. Acharya said that the association has called for a nation-wide protest on Thursday Sept 1. The members of the Dakshina Kannada chapter will shut down scanning centres and take out a protest rally from B.R. Ambedkar Junction to Hamilton Circle here. They will then present a memorandum.
