Udupi, Feb 26: The Bhu Santhrastara Horata Samithi will stage a protest in front of the DCs office, Udupi, on March 2, against the acquisition of land for the Suvarna Corridor Industrial Project.

President of Bhu Santrastara Horata Samithi Suhas Hegde informed media persons that the government has issued a notification on Nov 7, 2009, according to which 1,138 acres of agricultural land in Nandalike, Belman, and Sooda were included in this project. The area, which has two vented dams, is well irrigated and houses 1000 families.

The villages have decided to raise their voice against the acquisition and the neighboring villages are supporting them.

Mr. Hegde said that the members of the Samiti had approached Murugesh Nirani, the large and medium industries minister; MP Sadanand Gowda; MLA Gopal Bhandary; and others; but none of them had given a clear-cut response. So far, no action has been taken against the notification, he said.

Shashidhar Shetty, the vice president of the Samithi, and Xavier D’Mello, the secretary, were also present during the press conference.
