Samad might be released on June 15: advocate Solkar

Mangalore Today News Network

June 11:  Abdul Samad’s bail plea hearing is again adjourned to June 14. Samad was arrested by the anti-terrorist squad (ATS) of Maharashtra for his alleged involvement in the arms case of 2009 and later for masterminding the Pune bomb blast.

First, he was produced before the Masgaon court and was remanded to police custody. Mubeen Solkar, who is representing Samad, said that the hearing was initially scheduled for June 9 and was later postponed to June 10. Now, it has been further adjourned to June 14.

The lawyer said that the bail plea was not heard because the investigative officer was not present at the court hearing. Reportedly, the investigation officer was out of station for some reason, owing to which the court had to adjourn the hearing.

Mr. Solkar also said that it is possible to get bail for Samad; however this might take two more days. Samad might be released on June 15, he said.

Samad was arrested by the Maharashtra ATS at Mangalore International Airport and was taken to Mumbai by special flight. Majlis eIslah Wa Tanzeem Bhatkal, the only social representative organization for Muslims in Bhatkal, organized a protest against his arrest.
