Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Mar 24: United Youngsters, the Konkani Cultural Association, founded by legendary Konkani singer Wilfy Rebimbus, requested the general public not to use the works of Wilfy for commercial gains.

Leslie Rego, the convener of United Youngsters, addressed a press conference and informed journalists that the rights to Wilfy’s literary works, songs, music, poems, and plays belong to his family. Therefore, all individuals and organizations are forbidden from using his works either for stage performances or for publishing books, CDs, videos, and film either in part or whole.

Wilfy Rebimbus has written 3000 songs, out of which only 500 were released in the form of cassettes. His legal heirs have begun legal proceedings to obtain the copyright for all his works, he said. He also informed that anybody can use Wilfy’s works for non commercial purposes.

Mr. Rego informed journalists that Rebimbus’s family members have made long-term plans to preserve, publish, perform, present, and release his works in songs, poems, music, and plays for the benefit of the Konkani-speaking communities.

Mr. Rego also informed press people that Mr. Rebimbus had dreamed of presenting the 250th Wilfy Nite; however, he could present only 248 musical nites in his lifetime. He said that the Rebimbus family and the United Youngsters will prioritize the presentation of the 249th and 250th Wilfy Nite as early as possible.
