Public condolence meeting to honor Wilfy Rebimbus on March 22

Mangalore, Mar 17: A public condolence meeting will be held on March 22, at 4 p.m., to honor the late legendary singer Wilfy Rebimbus, popularly known as Konkan Koghul, who breathed his last on March 9. 

Convener of the Organizing Committee Ivan D’Souza informed press people during a press meet organized on March 17, Wednesday, that Mr. Rebimbus has made a huge contribution to Konkani music. He has entertained innumerable music buffs though his meaningful lyric and variety singing. Mr. D’Souza said that such a legendary soul must be duly honored for being a great musician and a humble person. 

Wilfy Rebimbus bears the credit of singing more than 2,800 Konkani and Tulu songs. He has created 48 cassettes and CDs and has presented 248 Wilfy Nites. Mr. D’Souza said that a move is being made to demand the renaming of the road from Valencia Circle to Koti Chennayya Circle as Wilfy Rebimbus Road. 

Mr. D’Souza also said that M Veerappa Moily, the union law minister; Krishna J Palemar, the district-in-charge minister; Mayor Rajani Dugganna; Fr. Dennis Moras Prabhu, vicar general of Mangalore Diocese; MLA Abhayachandra Jain; Gopal Hosur, the inspector general of police; Amarnath Shetty, the former minister; Leo Rodrigues, the NRI entrepreneur from Abu Dhabi; former MLC K S M Masood; Konkani Doyen Basti Vaman Shenoy; and many others will participate in the condolence meeting. 

Members of the condolence meeting committee, former mayor K Ashraf, Fr Anil D’Souza, Leslie Rego, and Praveen Alva were present during the press conference.
