Protest rally again MSEZ project on April 3

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Mar 24: A Tulunadu Agriculture, Environment, and Culture Preservation Campaign will be jointly held by several organizations as a part of which a day-long rights rally and protest will be conducted on April 3. The protestors will demand the immediate denotification of the land acquired for MSEZ Phase II, said Somanath Nayak, the president of the Nagarika Seva Trust, at the Patrika Bhavan on March 23, Tuesday.

Admitting that the government has not yet made a clear statement about whether it will go ahead with the MSEZ project or not, he said that the 2,030 acres of land that has been acquired for Phase II must be denotified immediately. He also said that the organization was willing to demand the denotification of the land that has already been acquired for Phase I.

Mr. Nayak also wanted to know why CM Yeddyurappa finds it so difficult to denotify the MSEZ project when Mathani Saldanha could so easily denotify 11 of the 13 SEZ projects in Goa when he was the minister.

Mr. T R Bhat, the president of the Coastal People’s Development Forum of Mangalore, said that, in 2005, the parliament had decided to take up SEZs in just 5 minutes without any discussion. He urged all the citizens of the country to protest against this and to protect the culture of the country.

Shri Shri Vishwesha Teertha Padangal of Pejawar Mutt, Udupi, will inaugurate this rally at Jyothi Circle at 10:15 a.m. on April 3. Rev Fr John Fernandes, the head of the Chair in Christianity, Mangalore University; Shri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji; Shri Digambara Jaina Mutt, Moodubidri; Maulana Yahya Thangal of Havya Jumma Maseedi, Bolangadi; and SHri Eshavittaladasa Swamiji of Sandeepani Ashrama, Kemaru, will jointly inaugurate the protest rally in front of the DC’s office.

Ms Hemalatha Bhat of the Agriculture Land Protection Committee, Mr. Vasudeva Boloor of the Nationalk Fishermen’s Forum, Vittala Shetty Padoor of the Agriculturists Forum - Karnataka, and Rajeev Salian of the Dakshina Kannada Parisarasktara Okkoota were also present at the press meet.
