Police reluctant to register cases against saffron outfits, complain Dalits

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 14, 2012 : Abhishek Goyal, superintendent of police, convened a grievance meeting between the Dalits and the police on May 13, Sunday.

One of the Dalit leaders complained that the police are reluctant to register cases against members of saffron outfits, who stand guilty of moral policing.

Guruvappa, another Dalit leader of Kadaba in Puttur, alleged that Rukmaya Gowda, the assistant sub inspector of Kadaba Police Station, threatened certain Dalits who had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint against a member of the privileged caste. He said that this attitude will encourage members of privileged castes to continue exploiting Dalits.

Further, he said that Mr. Rukmaya Gowda had threatened a Dalit family who had lodged a complaint against certain leaders of pro Hindu outfits for forcing a Dalit girl to lodge a false complaint against a Muslim youth. He said that leaders of pro Hindu outfits had kidnapped the Dalit girl, threatened and molested her, and forced her to file a false complaint against the Muslim youth.

In response, SP Abhishek Goyal said that the police have already arrested three people based on the girl’s complaint, adding that the police will take action against the ASI if the girl or her family lodges a proper complaint against him.
