Mangalore, Mar 6: The Mangalore East Police, who are investigating Shri Rama Sene leader Prasad Attavar’s alleged connection to the underworld, have found certain clues in his laptop that might help build a strong case against him. 

Allegedly, Attavar belongs to the gang of Ravi Poojary, the underworld don. He is accused of having masterminded extortions and murders for Ravi Poojary. As per the Indian Arms Act, Prasad Attavar has been booked for a number of offences, including criminal conspiracy. 

The police raided Attavar’s relative’s house on Friday and found his laptop. It contains the personal details of 30 top builders and entrepreneurs in Mangalore. The police consider this to be an important clue. 

Police sources told Hindu reporters that the builders might have been on Ravi Poojary’s extortion list. SP Dr. A S Rao told reporters that the police are now contacting these entrepreneurs and builders in the hope that some of them might register a complaint against Prasad Attavar. 

Police also suspect that Attavar could have made threatening calls to his victims using Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) technology, which makes the caller’s number look like a foreign number. The SP said that the police have contacted the Internet service provider (ISP) and will soon secure the entire web history of Attavar. 

Mr. Rao also said that Attavar used certain strategies to extort money from the rich. He would first threaten them and then approach them to mediate an agreement. He would retain a percentage of the payoff as commission. Sometimes, he would have someone else threaten the businessman and then step in to “protect” the unsuspecting businessman from harm.
