PU Education Department withholds Hadiya’s results

Mangalore, May 25, 2012 : Hadiya Iqbal, a commerce student at Jain PU College in Moodubidri who made headlines when she demanded her right to wear hijab (headscarf) to college, is still waiting for her II PU results.

The PU Education Department has withheld Hadiya’s result because it is waiting for the report of the special committee that investigated the headscarf issue.

Hadiya did not attend classes throughout her II PU because the college authorities did not permit her to wear the headscarf inside the classroom. She was denied a hall ticket because she had attendance shortage. When she made a personal appeal to the PU Education Department, she was allowed to answer her exam. The department asked her to sign a document bearing 10 conditions before giving her the hall ticket early in the morning of March 15, the first day of the PU exams.

The special committee will submit its report in 2 days as it had visited Hadiya’s college for enquiry on May 22.

Dakshayani, the joint director of the PU Education Department, said that Hadiya’s result will be published after the committee submits its report.

Hadiya says that she expects good results as she had worked hard.
