Mangalore, Nov 30: The district unit of the Bajarang Dal organized a Sankeerthana Yaathre, an event preparatory to their journey to Dattapeetham in Bababundangiri in Chikmagalur.

The Bajarang Dal activists were led by the Mr. Sharan Pumpwell, the president of the district unit of Bajarang Dal. As part of the Sankeerthana Yaathre, they visited a number of temples in Mangalore. They also received the blessings of the leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Later, they formed a convoy of several vehicles and embarked on their journey to Bababudangiri.

The group of activists, which was only 500 strong when it commenced on its journey in Mangalore, soon swelled to 4000 as more and more activists from Sullia, Bantwal, Vittla, Puttur, Belthangady, Moodbidri, Mulky, Suratkal, and Padubidri joined. Sharan Pumpwell said that when the Yaathre crosses BC road, more than 3,000 activists would join the convoy.

Sharan Pumpwell has also requested the state government to bring an end to all Islamic activities in Bababudangiri and reserve the Dattapeetham only for Hindu religious activities. He said that the Mazar of Bababudan should be moved to a different place. He also demanded that the government must appoint an administrator for the Datta Peetham. He also suggested that the Datta Peetham must be reconstructed and that the Paduka of Dattatreya must be brought back from the district treasury and reinstalled with honor at the Datta Peetham.

The Bajarang Dal has requested the district police to provide protection so that the Yaathre would reach its destination peacefully. Certain sources have revealed that the Reddy brothers of Bellary are making food and accommodation arrangements for the Bajarang Dal activists.

More than 30,000 activists of pro-Hindu groups will meet at Bababudangiri Hill. All of them hail from places such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Hubli, Belgaum, Bellary, and Davanagere.
