Kasargod, April 15: Manya Venkat Rao, a prominent cultural and religious leader, died on the morning of April 14, Wednesday, at his house “Nityananda Nilaya” in Manya at the ripe old age of 83. 


Rao owns the Nityananda Granthalaya in Hampankatta. He published, sold, and advertised books. His book store had the largest collection of Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Sanskrit, Hindi, Tulu, and other books. Nityananda Granthalaya had published innumerable bhajans, religious works, history books, research papers, anthologies, plays, novels, and so on. 


Manya Venkat Rao was widely renowned as a philanthropist who had donated generously for the cause of education and religion. He was a fond of Yakshagana too and had received many honors from M Veerappa Moily, Dr. Veerendra Heggade, and other prominent personalities. 


MP P Karunakaran, MLAs C T Ahmed Ali and C H Kunhambu, various forums and associations, and prominent personalities have expressed their heartfelt condolences.
