Neglect of road widening works, rally Jan 14 to 16: Rai

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Jan 04, 2019: The district Congress committee, which has been demanding completion of road widening work on the Addahole-B C Road stretch, will take out a protest rally from Nelyadi to B C Road on January 14, 15 and 16, former Congress minister B Ramanath Rai said.

Rai told reporters at the district Congress office on January 3, Thursday that the protest rally will witness public meets in Uppinangadi, Mani and B C Road on the first, second and the third day, during the course of the rally. The road widening project, sanctioned by the UPA government, had come to a standstill as L&T company had refused to continue work citing lack of financial resources.

“The road is one of the important roads connecting Mangaluru and Bengaluru. The incomplete works on the NH may cause road mishaps and therefore, the Congress has coined the slogan ‘Heddari Poornagolisi -Janara prana ulisi’ (complete NH works and save people’s lives). Rai charged that no significant projects were sanctioned in Dakshina Kannada district under the present MP. But efforts are on to hand over public enterprises like Mangaluru International Airport to private firms.

In reply to a query on the entry of women between the age of 10 and 50 to Sabarimala shrine, Rai said unlike BJP, he disliked politicising the issue. “I am a religious person and have visited Sabarimala shrine for many years. How many RSS leaders who have been raising a hue and cry over the issue, have visited Sabarimala,” he asked.

Former MLA J R Lobo, district Congress president Harish Kumar, District Mahila Congress president Charlotte Pinto, MCC Mayor Bhaskar K, MCC council whip Shashidhar Hegde, KPCC secretary Navin D’Souza, member Venkappa Gowda and district Congress committee secretary Shahul Hamid were present.
