Mangaluru, Aug 23, 2019: Kalkura Prathishtana, which has been observing Sri Krishna Janmashtami for the past 35 years, will organise the National Level Children’s Festival —Shri Krishna Vesha Competition (fancy dress) at Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple in Mangaluru today, August 23, Friday.

Speaking to media, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Kalkura Prathishtana said that the competition will be held in 30 categories for children and elders as part of the festival.

Competitions will be held at 12 venues including Shri Krishna Janmamahotsava Samiti Main Stage, first and second floors of Abhishek Hall, Kalyana Mantap, Manjushri and at the platform near Ashwatha Katte.

He said the competition is being organised for the last 35 years. “All Krishna Vesha competition participant children will be honoured with an idol of Udupi Kadegolu Krishna made of Panchaloha, books on Sri Krishna, certificate, photo of Lord Sri Manjunatha and prizes.

There is no entry fee for the competitions,” Kalkura said. He added that more than 3,000 participants are expected to take part in the competitions.

Fancy dress contest  :  The competitions are: ‘Kanda Krishna’ (for tiny tots below one year and mother can lead the child to the stage); ‘Muddukrishna’ (for toddlers under two years and mothers are allowed to come on the stage along with the participants); Thuntakrishna (for the toddlers of two years to three years); ‘Balakrishna’ (for kids from Anganwadi and LKG), ‘Kishora Krishna’ (for children from UKG and I std); ‘Sri Krishna’ (for II, III and IV standard children); Geetha Krishna (for students upto VII std, here one has to create Geethopadesha situation with costumes).

Other contests are: ‘Yakshakrishna’ (for children upto X std, participants have to wear only Yakshagana (Badaguthittu, Thenku thittu.); ‘Radhakrishna’ (children upto VII std (pair); ‘Radha Madhava’ (above class 7 students in pair); ‘Yashodha Krishna’ (woman as Yashodha and any child as Krishna can participate with action; no age limit for woman and child (Krishna upto 12 years); Shankanada (For children upto VII std);

More categories  :  Other Contests are: ‘Shankhaudgosha (for above seventh std and open to all); ‘Devaki Krishna’ (mother (previous participants of the competition) as Devaki and her child as Krishna can take part); Vasudeva Krishna (Any men with traditional costume as Vasudeva and kid as Krishna can act. There is no age limit. However, plastic baskets are not allowed. Even women can also enact as Vasudeva with men’s costume).

Among others, ‘Nanda Gokula’ (episode presentation of Lord Krishna’s life by a group i.e entire family members with minimum five members); ‘Acchutha (quiz upto class 7), Balakrishna quiz competition (for children upto VII standard); ‘Sri Krishna quiz contest (above VII std) and ‘Krishna photography’ in front of a stage in the temple premises.

The Sri Krishna Varna Vaibhava will be held at Sharada Vidyalaya from 9.30 am. ‘Sri Krishna Gana Vaibhava,’ in which participants can sing folk, devotional and light music on Sri Krishna and will be held at Sharada Vidyalaya. The rangoli on Sri Krishna will be held at Sharada Vidyalaya at 9.30 am.
