Mangalore, May 12, 2012 : Breaking News, a new Kannada film directed by Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, is scheduled to be released on May 18, Friday.

The above announcement was made at a press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl on May 10, Thursday, during which the people behind the film introduced themselves and shared their experiences.

The lead actor and the lead actress of this movie are Ajay Rao and Radhika Pandith, respectively. Rohit Kumar Kateel, a sportsman based in Mangalore, has also played a role. Stephen Prayog composed the music and A. V. Krishnakumar was in-charge of the cinematography. The script was edited by Basavaraj Aras and the lyrics for one of the songs were composed by Dr. Na Damodar Shetty.

The movie is based on the story of a reporter who hails from the village, but migrates to the city in search of a better job. His boss tells him to make sure that he gets “breaking news” that is attention grabbing and sensational every day, and in the process of searching for “breaking news,” the young reporter feels disillusioned about the media.

Radhika, who is the heroine of the movie, shared her experiences and said that she felt honored to work with Nagathihalli Chandrashekar for the second time in her career. Praising Mr. Chandrashekar for his ability to come up with excellent scripts, she said that she felt proud to work with such a great person. Radhika plays the role of a girl who has strict parents and spends her life trying to become what her teachers and parents want her to become.

Ajay, the hero of the movie, remarked that “Breaking News” is a humorous movie on a serious subject.

Dr. Na Damodar Shetty said that it was a pleasure to work with a legendary character like Chandrashekar because he infuses the richness of Kannada literature into each of his movies. He said that literature remains part of Mr. Chandrashekar although he left the world of literature to make movies.

Speaking about his movie, Mr. Chandrashekar said that it was inspired by a small story in Ayn Rand’s novel “The Atlas.” He said that he wanted to depict a serious issue in a humorous way, without sounding didactic. Stating that he doesn’t really mind whether the movie becomes a box office hit or a flop, he said that he is happy that he tried to make his movie as creative and unique as possible.

Sharing his movie-making experiences, he said that film makers grow as they make movies and can never get it right initially. Referring to the cinema as a “big gamble,” he said that making a movie requires plenty of money. Admitting that he knew nothing much about making movies as he is a man of literature, he said that he learned through experience alone.

Breaking News is all set to be released on May 18, and Mr. Chandrashekar has urged the public to watch it.
