NMPT celebrates birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar

Mangalore, Apr 15: The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) celebrated the 119th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.Ambedkar during a colorful programme held at Panambur. The dignitaries garlanded and offered flowers to the statue of the Bharat Ratna, which is located at Panambur. Later, they planted saplings near the building of the NMPT administrative office.

A stage function with Dr K V Halagappa, the district social welfare officer, DK, Mangalore, as the chief guest, was later held. Dr. Halagappa spoke about Dr. B R Ambedkar and lauded his various admirable qualities and the way he become a top achiever in life due to sheer dedication and hard work. The chief guest concluded his speech by requesting everyone to emulate the values and ideals of Dr. Ambedkar.

Chairman of NMPT Mr. P Tamilvanan highlighted the admirable qualities and the contributions of Dr. Ambedkar, who is the architect of the Indian Constitution. He said that the best way to honor Dr. Ambedkar is to serve the society just as he did.

The chairman and the chief guest distributed school bags to poor students of various government schools in DK. The chief medical officer of the Port Trust Hospital presented a report on the free medical camp conducted in this regard by the medical department of the Port Trust on April 4, 2010 at Bajpe. Around 200 people received treatment and medication at the medical camp.

Shri Harichandran, the secretary, made the welcome speech and Shri D Mahadevaiah, the deputy traffic manager, proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme concluded with the singing of the national anthem.
