Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 26, 2012: The National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), DK district unit, organized a training camp for human rights activists on May 26, Saturday.

S. P. Chengappa, president of the Mangalore Bar Council, expressed his concern over the rise in violence against human rights activists all over the world. Several human rights activists have been recently murdered, he added.

Although the concept of human rights is not new, a collective awareness of human rights was witnessed only in the nineteenth century. The recent cases of violence against human rights are disheartening, he said, lamenting that those who protest against human rights violation do not get any protection.

Citing cases of human rights violation, he said that capitalists have prevented poor students from getting a medical education by suddenly hiking medical course fees. Besides, many are trying to prevent the implementation of the Right to Education Act in spite of the Supreme Court order, he said.

Dinesh Hegde Ulepady, general secretary of NCHRO, delivered the introductory address. The resource person was Dr. Tharanath of SDM Law College.
