Mangaloreans eagerly welcome Volvo bus service

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 30: Commuters have responded favourably to KSRTC’s air-conditioned Volvo Mangalore - Manipal bus service. On Saturday, four Volvo buses were introduced along the route and two more buses were introduced on Monday.

The people of Mangalore were visibly excited to travel in these luxurious buses on Monday. One of the drivers of the bus, Mr. Nandakumar, is sure that the Volvo bus service is here to stay because the people have already accepted it.

The commuters are even happy to pay the higher bus fare because the journey is comfortable and the buses cost Rs 70 lakh each. Some people, however, are unable to afford the high fares.

Many people, especially the elderly, are happy about the low floors of these buses. They are also happy with the courteous behavior of the uniformed drivers and conductors.

The buses are already earning enough profit for the KSRTC. Divisional Traffic Officer M B Jaishanth said that four Volvo buses have already earned revenue of Rs 41,929 on Saturday in 17 one-way journeys and Rs 56,767 on Sunday in 20 one-way trips. He said that the operating cost of Sunday was Rs 42,000, which includes fuel and salary for the staff. So, the vehicles made a profit of Rs 15,000 on Sunday alone.
