Mangalorean advocate issues notice on Muniyappa for failure to keep promises

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Mar 10: Benedict Noronha, a senior advocate based in Mangalore, served a legal notice on K H Muniyappa, the union minister, on behalf of the people of Mangalore for his failure to keep his promises when he was the minister of state for railways.

The advocate has listed out the minister’s failure to extend the Mangalore-Bangalore train to Karwar and Goa, to start a Mangalore-Bangalore day train and extend it to Byndoor, and to extend the Mumbai-Karwar train to Mangalore.

The advocate said that the people were happy when these promises were made before the presentation of the budget; however, none of the promises have been met in the railway budget. The advocate stated in his notice that the people of Mangalore are “compelled to conclude that being a representative of the state in the union ministry,” the minister “had doled out promises here and then kept quiet in Delhi.”

The notice reminds the minister that he had taken an oath as MP to work for the interests of the people. Having sworn in as the union minister, he had cheated people by failing to keep his promises. The notice also reminded the minister of his constitutional responsibilities to hold discussions with the railway minister, Mamatha Banerjee, in an attempt to keep his promises. Noronha added in his note that there is a provision to file writ petition against him if he fails to take steps to meet the aspirations of the people based on his promises.

The advocate has endorsed copies of the notice to Meira Kumar, Lok Sabha Speaker; Rahul Gandhi, the AICC general secretary; and Sonia Gandhi, the AICC president.
