Mangalore sweating – average temperature of 35 degree Celsius recorded in city

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 12, 2012 : The temperature in Mangalore has soared, making people long for some cool showers. The maximum as well as minimum recorded temperature in Mangalore is 2 degree Celsius more than the average normal maximum and minimum temperature from the past few days. An average temperature of 35 degree Celsius is being recorded in Mangalore for the past one week.

On Friday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.9 degree Celsius, 2 degree Celsius more than the normal maximum. The minimum recorded temperature was 27 degrees Celsius, which was one degree Celsius more than the normal minimum.

The highest temperature ever of 35.9 degree Celsius in Mangalore was recorded back in May 2004

B. Puttanna, the director of the Indian Meteorological Centre in Bangalore, says that it is difficult to say when the city will cool down, but is sure that the interior parts of Karnataka will have some rainfall because of the southwest winds. He says that the temperature in coastal areas is warmer than usual because of the warm winds blowing from the north.

Explaining the weather situation further, he said that there is an upper air circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal, around 1.5km to 3.1km above sea level. If this air circulation descends and moves toward Kanyakumari, the coastal areas will get cooler, and there may even be rains.
