Mangalore police remove jarring horns

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Mar 8: Mangalore police removed multi-toned and pressure horns from vehicles and fined the owners for ignoring previous warnings, following the adalat, which was conducted under the chairmanship of DK Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj.

Mangalore police confiscated around 77 horns near RTO junction from two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers.

Mangalore traffic police informed that the Motor Vehicle Act forbids the use of such horns and that they took action in response to complaints lodged by two-wheeler riders as well as the general public.

The traffic police have requested motorists to remove these horns from their vehicles to control the noise pollution in the city as well as to protect the interests of the public.

A police officer said that, since traffic snarls are on the rise in Mangalore, private bus drivers who horn needlessly create a nuisance for pedestrians as well as other motorists. Moreover, staffs of various hospitals, educational establishments, and commercial outfits find this noise pollution to be a nuisance, he said, adding that the police have finally taken action against it.
