Man loses Rs 1 lakh in OTP fraud

Oct 18, 2017: The victim Ravi received a call on his cellphone from number 9771327694 and the person speaking in Hindi introduced himself as a bank official. The caller told Ravi that his bank account needs to be linked with his Aadhaar number and he is required to provide his ATM pin as well card details.   Ravi innocently provided the details. After some time, the caller also got the OTP, Ravi had received on his cellphone. Immediately after that, Ravi got a text message stating that Rs 99,966 had been withdrawn from his bank account. Ravi then realized that he was conned but he couldn’t go to the bank immediately. Unidentified cyber thieves have fraudulently withdrawn almost Rs one lakh from a person’s bank account by accessing his one-time password (OTP). .

The next day, he again received a similar call and the caller told him that he would credit the money which he had withdrawn and requested again for the OTP. Ravi’s son who spoke to the caller refused to give the OTP. A case has been registered at Cyber Crime Cell police station.
