Mangaluru, Oct 16, 2019: The sixth Additional District and Sessions Court convicted a man after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a woman repeatedly under the promise of marriage. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on October 17, Thursday.

Ajith Shetty, a resident of Kemral Attur, is the accused. An earthmover operator, he had met the victim through a common friend. They were in a relationship for five years.

Ajith, who had promised to marry the victim, sexually assaulted her first on September 4, 2015, and repeatedly later. As a result, she became pregnant and gave birth to a baby, after which, Ajith refused to marry her.

The victim filed a complaint against Ajith, his father Harishchandra and brother Ajay Shetty at the Bajpe Police Station. The police investigated the case and filed a chargesheet to the court.

Public prosecutor Judith O M Crasta said that as many as nine witnesses were examined and 11 documents were produced before the court. The documents include the medical reports and DNA test analyses, which proved that Ajith was the biological father of the child.

Judge Sayeedunnisa found Ajith guilty of sexual assault and cheating.

In addition, with the intention to evade  punishment, Ajith married the victim on November 3, 2018, but
never visited the victim nor took her to his house to live with him.
