MU has no right to secretly confer honorary doctorates: Ahinda

Mangalore, April 5: “Mangalore University has kept the selection process for its honorary doctorates secret,” alleged Lolaksha, the working president of Ahinda during a press meet organized at Hotel Woodlands on April 5, Monday. He further alleged that the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy has not given any details regarding the appointment of a selection committee, the number of nominations filed for the honorary doctorate, and other details regarding the conferring of honorary doctorates.

Declaring that Mangalore University is not the private property of the vice chancellor, the syndicate, the registrar, or the members of the academic council, Lolaksha said that the Mangalore University belongs to the people. He stated that the university had no right to confer honorary doctorates as per its wish.

Lokaksha invited the seven people selected to receive honorary doctorates to decline the honor if they feel that they are not eligible to receive it and to thereby save their reputation.

Bola Chittaranjan Das Shetty and Renny D’Souza were present during the press conference.

Vice Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy had announced during a press conference organized at University College that the Mangalore University will confer honorary doctorates on 7 eminent personalities on the occasion of its 28th annual convocation.
