Lions organize day-long event for special kids

Mangalore, March 31: Convener of Special Olympics Dist 324 – 5 Lion Leslie D’Souza and Lions Club Mangalore Valencia Dist 324 – D jointly organized Utsava 2010, a district-level event for differently abled children, in the premises of Kadri Park on March 31, Wednesday. This one-day event was inaugurated by Chairman of Kodialguthu Charitable Trust Ajith Kumar Maladi.

Vice District Governor 324-D5 Lion MJF J K Rao, District Governor 324-D5 Lion MJF Alwyn Patrick Patrao, Lion MJF Agnel Rodrigues, Proprietor of Dinky Dine Swarna Sunder, Lion Francis Pinto, Lion John Vaz, Lion T Mada, and others were also present during the inauguration. The special children of Lions Special School in Suratkal, St Agnes Special School, and Prashanth Nivas Special School participated in this event. 

In his inaugural speech, Mr. Maladi said that Lions Club is built on the foundation of service to the needy. Recalling the lack of facilities for differently abled children in the past, he said that several social service organizations are now taking an interest in these special children and creating awareness regarding their problems. He lauded these organizations and also the parents of differently abled children. 

Expressing his appreciation for differently abled children, J K Rao said that these special children possess certain abilities that others do not possess. He also expressed his appreciation for the caregivers of these children. 

Lion Leslie D’Souza made the welcome speech; and Lion Francis Pinto expressed gratitude.
