Mangalore, Mar 24: Leo Pereira, a prominent real estate businessman of Karkala, who was allegedly kidnapped by the land mafia on March 22, was released at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. 

Reportedly, the kidnappers had demanded Rs 25 lakh for his release, but there is no information on whether this demand was met or not. 

Superintendent of Police Praveen Pawar of Udupi informed press people on Tuesday, March 24 that the police were still searching for the kidnappers. 

Mr. Periera’s brother had lodged a complaint at the Karkala police station that Mr. Periera was missing from his house since Monday morning. But Ida, his wife, filed a separate complaint that she suspected that her husband might have been kidnapped for ransom.
