Killers of Babu Mugera Arrested

Killers of Babu Mugera Arrested

23 October 2009

The death of Babu Mugera of Belalu in Belthangady, which was recorded as an unnatural death, was re-opened recently with the arrest of 3 persons. The arrested have confirmed that the death of Mugera was far from accidental and that it was a murder planned well in advance.

When Mugera was on his way back home from work on November 27, 2008, he spotted a bar of soap, a packet of biscuits, and a bottle of liquor by the side of the road. He took the items home, handed over the soap and biscuits to his wife, and consumed the liquor from the bottle. Shortly afterwards, Mugera contracted severe stomach pains and died.

The death of Mugera was registered as an unnatural death because his post mortem reports proved that he had died of cyanide consumption. The case was almost closed when Chinkra, his brother, filed a complaint against 2 brothers Keshava Gowda and Sheena Gowda, alleging that the two had killed Mugera because of a property dispute in August 2009.

The police investigated the case and arrested a goldsmith called Ramaraya Achar who confessed that he had supplied cyanide to Sheena Gowda about 3 days before Mugera died. Accordingly, Keshava Gowda and Sheena Gowda have been arrested.

SP Dr A S Rao said that justice has been rendered to the deceased and his family because of this arrest; otherwise, the case would have been closed as an unnatural unsolved death.
