Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 17: The state government’s policy on sand mining negatively affected the people of coastal region, said U T Khader, MLA Mangalore, on March 17 at Congress Committee office, Mangalore.

In an interaction with journalists here, khader said that he had raised several questions regarding sand mining in the state assembly meeting, recently. Sand mining is a major profession in coastal region. Many families are leading life with the support of land mining profession. But the work of sand mining, since ten days, came to a halt after district administration ordered not to take sand from this area. The decision has badly affected the livelihood of people. Further he added that, this is a kind of bias from administration. The administration authority has given permission to other sand mining owners to continue sand mining from other coasts.

Supporting sand mining families of this region, he said that sand should be availed to locals of this area for a convenient rate. Instead of that, sand is being transported to neighbor states for high costs. Nearly two thousand loads are transported to kerala, daily, he added. Though the state government passed a law to stop the transportation of sand from Karnataka to Kerala, the process is still on. The government should take a strict policy on this. He also stated that, many of the construction works got halted due to no permission to take sand from here.

He also complained about less numbers of buses are plying in rural area like Harekala, Pavoor and Amblamogru. The considerable increase of population in rural areas made people to face problem like transportation. So the government should try to increase the number of buses in this area, at least in peek hours.

When journalists asked question about the celebrations of Abbakka Utsav in Ullal, he commented that, for the first time, Government has implemented a huge amount for the grand celebration of the famous Abbakka Uthsav.
