KMC city/Light House Hill campus 50-year celebration Oct 14, Saturday

Mangaluru, Oct 13, 2017: KMC, Kastuba Medical College’s Light House Hill campus in Mangaluru city, will celebrate the 50th year of its inception on Oct 14, Saturday.

Speaking to media on this matter earlier this week, M. Venkatraya Prabhu, dean of the college, said KMC Manipal/ Mangaluru started as a composite college. It began with the preclinical wing (first year) in Manipal. When the students moved to the second year in 1955, classes were held in a building on K.S. Rao Road and clinical practice was at the Government Wenlock and Government Lady Goschen Hospitals.

KMC Mangaluru moved to the Light House Hill campus on October 14, 1967. The then Vice-President V.V. Giri inaugurated the building. Then there were 120 students. KMC Mangaluru is now independent and has an intake of 250 students. KMC Manipal has an intake of 250 students.

To mark the golden jubilee of Lighthouse Hill campus, Dr. Prabhu, an alumnus of KMC, said the institution is felicitating 11 long-serving teachers of the institution. They will also felicitate non-teaching staff.

The felicitation will be done by Manipal University Hostel Committee chairperson Vasanthi R. Pai and chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group Ranjan Pai. Manipal University Pro-Chancellor H.S. Ballal, Pro Vice-Chancellors V. Surendra Shetty and Poornima Baliga and chairman of Manipal Health Enterprises Sudharshan Ballal will participate in the function.

Dr. Prabhu said they would also have a digital display board at the entrance to the campus that will have messages helpful to people.
