Mangaluru, Dec 21, 2018: The Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union, in association with Belthangady Taluk Journalists’ Association and government departments, has organised a Journalists’ Village Stay (Grama Vastavya) at Kuthlur village in Naravi Gram Panchayat of Belthangady Taulk on Dec 23, Sunday.
Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy had launched the union’s Brand Mangaluru and Village Stay initiative in Mangaluru on October 14.
The village stay is organised to address several problems faced by residents of the village, located on the periphery of Kudremukh National Park, with the active involvement of various agencies concerned, union general secretary Ibrahm Adkasthala said in a release here. It is also aims at bringing the village to the mainstream.
Officials from different departments will visit the village along with journalists and hear villagers’ grievances. The stay will also have a free medical check-up camp to be conducted by doctors from A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
DK DC Sasikanth Senthil will inaugurate the programme at 9 a.m. ,while Zilla Panchayat CEO R. Selvamani will inaugurate the medical camp and Superintendent of Police B.R. Ravkanthe Gowda will open the discussion. Union president Srinivas Nayak Indaje will preside over the programme.
While villagers will hold dialogue with journalists between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., they will interact with people’s representatives, including Minister U.T. Khader, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA Harish Poonja, from 3 p.m. followed by discussions with officials from 3.30 p.m.
DC Senthil will deliver the valedictory address in the presence of AJ’s Managing Director Prashanth Marla and others at 4 p.m. After these programmes, journalists will engage in discussions with villagers again from 5 p.m. and stay at some houses in the village, the release added.
