Journalist in Quran insult row, home minister for probe

Mangaluru, Sep 12,2017:  Home minister Ramalinga Reddy has assured to order a high level comprehensive probe in to the arrest of a journalist in connection with alleged insult to the Holy Quran in Bantwal recently. Reddy gave this assurance to minister for food and civil supplies and consumer affairs U T Khader, who raised the issue of arrest of Imtiyaz, reporter of Kannada daily Varthabarathi by the district police in this connection.


Khader who met Reddy in Bengaluru on Monday pointed that only a comprehensive probe can clear the doubts in minds of people regarding the incident. Imitiyaz was arrested for allegedly planting the Quran amidst a pile of books in the house of an accused wanted in the Sharath Madivala murder case, to given an impression that police insulted the religious text. District police chief C H Sudheer Reddy has already categorically ruled out any such act.
