Mangalore, Jan 15: IGP of Western Zone Gopal Hosur said that the state police departments have come to a decision to lead a joint operation against the sand mafia, which is illegally transporting sand from Karnataka to Kerala via 28 different routes.

Speaking at a press conference, the IGP said that the police departments of the 2 states are short of staff. For this reason, they have decided to work together in order to bust the sand mafia. Strict action will be taken against illegal sand businesses. The departments came to this decision at the end of a meeting held in Kannur on Jan 11, he said.
