Inter-collegiate cross country meet, Alva’s tops

Moodabidri, Sep 13,2017: Host Alva’s College have bagged team championship at inter-collegiate cross country meet organized jointly by Alva’s Education Foundation and Mangalore University. While the men’s team won the championship for the 15th time, the women’s team did so for the 14th time to bring home the Kurunji Vishwanath Gowda memorial trophy and Kaikure Sriramanna Gowda memorial trophy given to the respective team champions.


KSS College, Subrahmanya finished second and SDM College, Ujire third and FMKMC College, Madikeri fourth in the men’s section. On the distaff side, SDM College, Ujire finished second, KSS College third and Alva’s College of Physical Education, fourth respectively. While Arathi Patil Dattatreya of Alva’s College finished 6-km course for women in 23.19 minutes to emerge champion, Ranjith Kumar Patil of the host college finished 12-km course in 40.22 minutes to be placed first.


Earlier, K Abhayachandra Jain, Mulki-Moodbidri MLA and former minister flagged off the event at Swaraj Maidan. Haridas Kuloor, assistant director, physical education department, Mangalore University handed over a cheque for Rs 2.50-lakh to Kurian, principal of the college towards the amount spent by the college in facilitating the participation of two university athletes in World University Sports Meet held at Chinese-Taipei at the valedictory function.
